lutruwitaTASMANIA is a somewhat loaded place to launch a discussion about HOMEplaces, placedness and cultural landscaping. Yet somehow it is a place that speaks of 'hereness' and 'elsewhereness' in the very same breath.
It is worth saying at the outset that as humans anywhere on Planet Earth there are just four fundamental imperatives that impact upon everything we do all the time, everywhere, and all the time as humans being in the world.
Firstly, there is what we all need to sustain life – sufficient oxygen, food, water and shelter. Secondly, there is the need to identify within the group one identifies with – the family, tribe, community, nation. Thirdly, there is need to procreate – both genetically and ideologically. Fourthly, there is the need for a HOMEplace – somewhere that provides safe shelter, somewhere to fulfil the first three imperatives, somewhere where one is welcome and welcomed.
